Book No. 48 of 2020 ⭐️
It is very, very hard for me to describe this book; the best I can say is that it’s thematically and structurally so masterfully done that, reading Solnit’s words, I felt like an idiot who can barely string words together.
Solnit writes from her own experience and weaves the most disparate examples from all different fields together; she then ties these facts and observations into moments from her own life, and you’re left flabbergasted at the connectedness of it all.

The meditative quality of the writing reminded me of Rachel Cusk’s Outline.
The use of fairy tales and the musings on what role they serve in culture, as well as the thematic connections to science, reminded me of Catherine Chung’s The Tenth Muse.
