With all the fear surrounding COVID-19 right now, I keep thinking about Severance, by Ling Ma, one of my favorite reads of 2019. In Severance a mysterious fever originally from China turns into a global outbreak (sound familiar?) and the story examines cultural identity, cult psychology, and the role of routine in an increasingly chaotic world.
I encourage you to stay in and read, buy supplies in reasonable quantities (please don’t hoard), and for the love of all that is holy, don’t be racist, thanks!
